What is a Sato?

Sato (pronounced “Sah-Toe”) is an affectionate term given to street dogs in Puerto Rico. They are feisty, quick to learn, and make the best pets. We know this because the dog pictured everywhere is Rico, a rescue from Puerto Rico, who went from frightened and fox-like to Coach Blake’s running partner and sidekick.

What better mascot to emulate when we’re bringing all the “strays” in the community together to run freely and find friendship?

Coach Blake worked with Paradise Rescue PR to be reunited with Rico after meeting him on a family vacation in 2021 with her husband and their two daughters. It’s fair to say she’s been obsessed with helping these stray dogs ever since.

will be donated to Paradise Rescue PR. Coach Blake has personally met some of the women who volunteer their time here and is confident the money is put to good use to find healthcare and loving homes for the many Satos wandering the streets.

“Run all the miles.
Pet all the dogs.”

This shirt pretty much sums it up, yeah?

Rico is the dog in the center, with his head turned. Sadly, not all of his siblings were caught by the rescuers, which puts their chance of having survived to today extremely low. Spreading our love of running AND helping these sweet babies checks off two major boxes for Coach Blake.
